Pupil Leadership

At Watling Primary School, we believe in empowering our children to take on additional responsibilities in order to develop strong leadership skills in preparation for life beyond school. As part of our Job Squad, we have several roles available including Lunchtime Monitors, Playground Helpers and Library Helpers. We also have an Eco-Committee, and will continue to develop these opportunities alongside introducing our Student Council over the coming months.

Our pupil leadership teams promote the school’s Watling Way values of Wonder, Aspire, Teamwork, Learn, Include, Nurture and Ground-breaking, as well as promoting active learning, problem-solving and teamwork. Through our pupil leadership opportunities, we aim to prepare our children to be confident and articulate communicators, ready for the opportunities of adult life.

Our Eco-Committee was established in 2024, and has already begun working towards achieving the Eco Schools Green Flag Award. The Eco-Committee’s biggest project to-date has been the Eco-Committee stall at the 2024 Summer Fair, set up and planned entirely by the Eco-Committee in order to raise profits for the World Wildlife Fund. The project was a huge success, and the children exhibited excellent teamwork and communication skills to resource and promote the stall, raising enough money to adopt a panda for the school. We are excited to continue our Eco-Committee’s hard work this academic year, and look forward to seeing what projects they come up with next!

Our ‘Job Squad’ consists of teams of Lunchtime Monitors, Playground Helpers and Library Helpers. These small but mighty teams work to ensure the efficient running of day to day operations, as well as taking on a vital role in ensuring our environment is conducive to eat, play and learn in.

Over the coming year, we will be looking to expand on our Job Squad opportunities by introducing Site Helpers, Forest Friends, and Assembly Helpers.
